1. In short
Tokyofishmarket rewards you for taking part: you earn points, experience, badges, trophies, titles and cosmetics, you complete quests and keep streaks, and you can look after a virtual pet called a tamapon. These rewards exist only on the platform. They have no monetary value, you cannot cash them in or turn them into discounts, and they are licensed to you, not sold to you.
This section is a plain-language summary. It does not replace the clauses that follow. This document forms part of our Terms of Service, and section 13 of the terms applies to everything below. Where this document and the terms differ, the terms prevail.
2. What this document covers
2.1 "Virtual items" has the meaning given in section 3 of the terms: points, experience (XP), badges, trophies, titles, cosmetics, virtual pets and any other digital reward that exists only on the platform. It also covers the features that produce them: levels, prestige, quests, streaks, leaderboards, lotteries, boosters, card packs and reward boxes.
2.2 Store credit on your account is not a virtual item. Store credit is an amount of money that we credit to you, for example as a contest prize, as a refund or adjustment on an order, after a change to a subscription, or as a goodwill gesture. It is governed by Payments & Payouts and Returns & Refunds, not by this document, and nothing in this document applies to it.
2.3 On the platform, points are called "shells". The pet's own in-game currency is called "crumbs". Both are virtual items. No virtual item can be redeemed for a coupon or a discount on an order.
3. Your licence
3.1 We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive licence to use your virtual items on the platform, for as long as your account is open. Virtual items are not your property and are not a deposit, a balance of money or a payment instrument.
3.2 Virtual items have no monetary value. They cannot be exchanged for money, for goods, for store credit, or for a discount on an order, and they cannot be used to pay for an order or any part of one. Nothing you earn in the gamification system reduces the price of anything sold on the marketplace.
3.3 Virtual items cannot be sold, given or transferred to another account, except through a feature we provide for that purpose. At the date of this version we do not offer any such feature. If we add one, its screen will state exactly what it transfers, and only that feature may be used. Selling or buying virtual items, or an account that holds them, outside the platform is a breach of these rules.
4. Points
4.1 You earn points for taking part. At the date of this version, points are credited when you verify your email address (a welcome bonus of 100 points), when you complete a quest or an achievement, reach a new level, keep a streak, win a lottery or open a reward box, when your tamapon earns a reward, and each month while you hold a Pro or Pro Max subscription (section 9).
4.2 You can spend points only on the platform, on virtual items and gamification features: boosters, card packs and streak freezes from the points shop, finishing a quest early where that option is offered, and restoring a tamapon (section 10). The price in points is shown before you confirm.
4.3 Points do not expire at the date of this version. If we decide to introduce an expiry, we will give you notice under section 19 of the terms before it applies, and it will not apply to points credited before the notice.
4.4 Every credit and debit of points is recorded in your points history, which you can consult on your account.
5. Experience, levels and prestige
5.1 You earn experience (XP) for activity on the platform, such as posting, voting, contributing to the catalogue, completing quests and keeping streaks. XP raises your level. An active XP booster (section 8) multiplies the XP you earn while it lasts.
5.2 When you reach level 100, you may choose to prestige. Prestiging resets your level to 1 and your XP towards the next level to zero, raises your prestige rank by one, and awards you prestige tokens. It cannot be undone. Each prestige is recorded permanently in your prestige history, with the level and XP you had when you chose it.
6. Badges, trophies, titles and cosmetics
6.1 Badges and trophies are awarded for milestones and achievements. Badges have a rarity. Some badges are secret until earned.
6.2 We may retire a badge, which means we stop awarding it to new players.
6.3 Titles, emblems, skins, colour palettes, frames and other cosmetics change how your profile or interface looks. They give no advantage on the marketplace or in moderation. Some are unlocked at a given level or prestige rank.
6.4 We may withdraw a badge, trophy, title or cosmetic that was obtained by breaking these rules or through an error on our part, as set out in section 11.
7. Quests, streaks, leaderboards and lotteries
7.1 Quests are challenges with objectives and, for most of them, a start and an end date. The reward is granted when you complete the objectives within that window. A quest that has ended can no longer be completed.
7.2 A streak counts consecutive days of activity. It breaks when a day passes without the qualifying activity, unless a streak freeze or a streak shield booster covers that day.
7.3 Leaderboards rank players over a stated period. A player whose account or player profile is suspended, or who has broken these rules, may be removed from a leaderboard. A ranking is not a promise of any reward unless the leaderboard states one.
7.4 Lotteries are draws with a start and an end date. Entry is free and limited to one free entry per player per lottery. Prizes are virtual items only, such as points, XP or a reward from a reward box. No lottery on the platform requires a payment or a purchase to enter.
8. Boosters, card packs and reward boxes
8.1 A booster temporarily multiplies the XP or points you earn, raises the chance of a reward drop, or shields a streak. Each booster states its effect and its duration, which runs from the moment it is activated and ends automatically. At the date of this version, boosters are obtained with points or as rewards.
8.2 A card pack contains a set number of collectible cards drawn at random, some slots guaranteeing a minimum rarity. Card packs are opened with points, and a pack may have a daily limit. Collectible cards are virtual items.
8.3 Reward boxes grant one reward drawn at random from a published pool. Every reward in a pool is a virtual item: points, XP, a badge, a cosmetic or a booster.
9. Paid items
9.1 Some virtual items come with something you pay for in money. At the date of this version, this is the Pro and Pro Max subscription, which credits 100 points to your account each month while it is active. Payment is taken by our secure payment service, as described in Payments & Payouts, and before you pay you are shown the price, the currency, what you receive and for how long.
9.2 If we offer a virtual item for sale in money, such as a booster or a pack, the offer states what you receive, its duration if it has one, and its price before you confirm. Before we offer a virtual item for sale in money for the first time, checkout will record your express request for immediate delivery and your acknowledgement of the effect on any legal right of withdrawal that applies to you. What you buy is a licence under section 3 to use that item on the platform. It is not a payment instrument, and it cannot be exchanged back for money except as clause 9.3 provides.
9.3 If we fail to provide a paid item, or if we remove a feature you have paid for, you are refunded the unused part of what you paid, and we give you notice under section 19 of the terms before the removal, as section 15 of the terms requires. Your rights as a consumer are not limited by this clause (section 9.2 of the terms).
10. Your tamapon
10.1 A tamapon is a virtual pet tied to your account. You adopt it, and it has vital signs, hunger, happiness, energy and hygiene, that change over time. You look after it by feeding it, playing with it, cleaning it, letting it rest and healing it, and some care items cost crumbs. As it grows it can evolve and progress through chapters.
10.2 A tamapon can generate perks while it is well cared for. At the date of this version, a perk grants points, XP or a badge. A perk never grants a discount, a coupon or store credit.
10.3 A tamapon that is neglected can die, of starvation, exhaustion or disease. Its death is permanent, subject to clause 10.4, and it is recorded in your graveyard with its name, traits, dates and a summary of its journal.
10.4 For 7 days after your tamapon dies, you may restore it once for 50 points, provided you have no other living tamapon and you have not restored a tamapon in the previous 30 days.
10.5 Your tamapon's detailed journal entries are kept for 30 days, then deleted. The summary kept in the graveyard is not affected.
10.6 We may end a tamapon ourselves only as a measure under section 11, and we tell you when we do.
11. Fair play
11.1 The following are not allowed:
- using bots, scripts, macros or any automated means to earn XP, points or other rewards, or to complete quests;
- creating or using more than one account to collect rewards;
- coordinating with other users to manipulate votes, rankings or rewards;
- exploiting a bug or a glitch instead of reporting it to us;
- buying, selling or trading virtual items or accounts, except through a feature we provide for that purpose.
11.2 Where you break these rules, we may withdraw the virtual items obtained through the breach, reset the progress it produced, remove you from a leaderboard, or suspend your player profile. Our action is proportionate to the breach, as section 14.1 of the terms requires. We tell you what we did and why, and you may contest it, as sections 14.2 and 14.3 of the terms describe.
11.3 Where a virtual item was credited to you through an error on our part, we may correct it. We tell you when we do.
12. When we change virtual items
12.1 To keep the game fair and balanced, we may change the free rewards and how they are earned without notice: earn rates, multipliers, level thresholds, quest objectives, the contents of the points shop and of reward boxes, and which badges are still awarded. Such a change does not take away a virtual item already in your account, except as section 11 provides.
12.2 We do not remove or reduce anything you paid for in money without notice. Before we remove a feature or a virtual item you have paid for, we give you notice under section 19 of the terms, and we refund the unused part of what you paid.
12.3 If we decide to close the gamification system, or a whole part of it such as the tamapon, we give you notice under section 19 of the terms.
13. When something goes wrong on our side
13.1 If a streak breaks, a quest window is missed, a booster is lost or your tamapon dies because the platform was unavailable or did not work as it should, write to support@tokyofishmarket.com. Where our records show that the fault was ours, we restore what was lost.
13.2 Our liability is otherwise governed by section 16 of the terms.
14. When your account closes
14.1 Your licence to your virtual items ends when your account is closed, whether you close it or we do under section 14 of the terms. Virtual items cannot be paid out or transferred on closure, because they have no monetary value.
14.2 A subscription or other service you paid for in money is handled on closure as Payments & Payouts and section 19.3 of the terms describe.
